Our induction and training course is held over five days and includes Moving and Handling, First Aid, a general introduction to what is required of a carer and an interview. Applicants will be required to complete a number of questionnaires and scenario tests to assist the Corinium Care team in understanding more about each new carers' approach to the caring process. It is a fairly intensive course and homework is given out each evening. Our courses are held Mon-Fri and we recommend you reserve your place on a training course before making your travel arrangements. We do suggest that carers coming from overseas try to travel at least 48 hours before to give the carer the weekend to acclimatise and organise any last minute travel and paperwork. We also include Moving and Handling training and First Aid training which are both very physical, the carer should be fit and able enough to complete these. Practical tasks include kneeling down onto the floor and getting back up onto your feet, you must feel comfortable in your ability to do this. You are required to sign a disclaimer stating you have no serious back problems and that you are not pregnant. These are both essential sections of the course, failure of one or both of these modules will result in a carer not being put forward for work. We also use this time to complete any paperwork and help opening bank accounts, getting NI numbers and provide information about the Inland Revenue etc. Please do note however that as the course is conducted within office hours there is very little time to take people to open accounts, fill up on talk time for mobiles etc. We develop a partnership between Corinium Care, the carer, the client and their families. To see an example timetable of a normal training week click here
The accomodation that we use during the training course are: Food will be provided throughout the course and lunch is held at The Olive Tree, next to the Corinium office. Lunch is from an express menu and you can take a look at the menu here.
