Our live-in carers

At Corinium Care we offer a wide choice of registered carers able to provide 24-hour live-in care to our clients.

We seek to introduce to our clients someone who will:
  • give support and gentle companionship;
  • respect a client’s dignity, privacy and choice;
  • assist with all personal care tasks;
  • encourage and help their client to do as much for themselves as possible; and
  • undertake light housework, cooking and shopping duties if that’s what the client wishes

All our carers go through a careful selection process and take part in our award-winning training scheme, where they learn everything from first aid, personal care, and moving and handling, to how to deal with dementia.

They come from all walks of life, and many come from New Zealand, Zimbabwe and South Africa as well as the UK. What they all have in common is a compassionate and caring nature, and a desire to make their client feel safe and comfortable in their own home.

During the week-long training period, our carers are closely assessed for their ability to work in such a sensitive role. Our care managers get to know each new arrival, and build an understanding of their particular strengths. What we look for most is common sense, integrity and reliability – and a sense of humour.

Whilst Corinium Care is not a nursing agency, many of our care providers have some nursing experience.

Their duties depend on the needs of their client. But they are on hand 24/7 to help with personal care such as washing and bathing, to do household duties such as cooking, cleaning and shopping, and to help make their client’s life as rich as possible. They’ll even walk the dog.

Most of all, they are always there to provide companionship and peace of mind. They encourage their client to be as independent as possible, while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

Recognising the importance of continuity to both our clients and to their families, we try and propose the same regular live-in carers for each client.

Most importantly, clients are always involved in  the decision-making process when a carer is selected, and their preferences are always taken into account.
